Never underestimate the importance of knowledge and sound advice when embarking on the journey of motherhood. This book will truly inspire and motivate you. There are numerous academic books available on individual aspects of pregnancy such as pre-pregnancy, nutrition and breastfeeding – many of which are very good if you have the time to read them all. Wellness Our Birthright Written in everyday language, Wellness Our Birthright is the result of both personal and professional experiences of giving birth to five wonderful children using the methods described in the book, together with those of the numerous women I have helped in my consultancy practice. It looks at the health and wellbeing of both parents, starting from before the point of conception, and takes you through all the major steps of pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding and early motherhood. In it you will learn about the profound effect that these steps will have on your baby throughout its entire life, and how you can create a healthy environment - physically, mentally and emotionally. As a result, you will be able to look at birth as the natural process it should be, rather than the highly interventionist event it has unfortunately become, and make your own informed choices about what is best for your baby – and for you.
Through my extensive research I found that in terms of overall wellness it is impossible to separate body and mind. I also found that the very first moments of life – starting even before the point of conception – are the most critical in determining how an individual will grow and develop in terms of their physical and mental health, and their emotional stability. It became clear to me that without these insights, many parents are unwittingly passing on a legacy to their children from which they may never recover. Armed with this new knowledge, I was determined that it was every prospective parent’s right to understand the extraordinary range of issues involved in childbirth - and their unborn children’s birthright as well. The result is Wellness Our Birthright. |
Uniquely, it deals with the physical, emotional and mental aspects of childbirth, for both the mother and father, while always focusing on the baby’s wellness and how to give your child the best possible start in life. Today we are confronted from all directions with confusing and often conflicting information. What to eat in pregnancy? When to come off the pill? How to deal with trouble conceiving, or cope with fear of the pain? All these questions and more are answered in this single reliable source, enabling the journey into parenthood to be joyful and fulfilling by increasing your knowledge and awareness, and reducing any needless concerns.
I am passionate about health and well-being, and for understanding the root of good health. By this I mean maximising an individual’s “wellness”, as opposed to simply preventing illness. In fact, I love the concept that in the Yellow Emperor’s time, a physician was paid to keep the Emperor well and if not, he lost his job. If we can incorporate some of this understanding into our daily western lives, then we too can reap the benefits. I did not start out as a natural health practitioner. It was my quest and thirst for knowledge that drove me to investigate the basis for understanding wellness beginning with nutrition and then other systems of holistic health. From there, my desire to share these insights with others who either do not have the time, or the same desire to uncover this information for themselves.
